I am a cell biologist, researcher, and educator with over twenty years’ experience in human genetics. My skills include interpretation of chromosome and molecular genetic testing, genetic characterization of human and mouse stem cells, laboratory management and development to meet national certification (CAP and CLIA). I have skills in writing and editing for many platforms.
Founding director of WiCell Research Institute’s Cytogenetics Laboratory
Under my leadership, this lab developed into a highly regarded global testing service for the genetic characterization of human and mouse embryonic and induced pluripotent stem cell cultures.
I was the principal investigator on WiCell’s IRB and SCRO protocols.
Board certified in Clinical Cytogenetics by the American Board of Medical Genetics and a founding fellow of the American College of Medical Genetics
Directing small academic and large commercial clinical genetic laboratories has grounded me in the quality assurance procedures needed to satisfy CAP and CLIA requirements.
I have extensive knowledge in the interpretation of results of high complexity genetic testing.
Background in basic sciences, with a PhD in Biological Sciences
My PhD from Kent State University was followed by post-doctoral work at the Universities of Oregon and Washington, and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Institute.
My work with imaging technologies, gene mapping, and developmental biology relates strongly to understanding the dynamics of living cells in culture.
